Sad Times
I was thinking today about the sad ways or our world today. When I was growing up, they had no reason to have "search teams" to look for bodies of missing people. It's just the way our times are now.
But what ticks me off is that it's not trained law enforcement doing this. Police often rely too much on these volunteer search groups that have become lucrative businesses that get corporate sponsorship for the purpose of finding the missing. However, most these groups have turned into money making businesses. With a director of the search team organization paying themselves a hefty salary then solicit the help of "volunteers" to do all the work.
Every major city should have trained police investigators trained in forensics and missing persons who sole job is to be the boots on the ground. The ones doing the actual searching should be police officers, not civilians.
A Lot of these "volunteer" search teams have compromised crime scenes. They have stepped over evidence.
These searches are generally supervised by an investigator. Then they rely on what they hope are volunteers to follow directions. A Lot of these search groups play detective, when they should only be searching. That's why I think it should be trained law enforcement people ONLY doing the searches. Let the volunteers put up flyers and go door to door.
Local politicians need to petition the State to allow the funding for such teams for every major police department and county sheriff.
It makes me angry that law enforcement has to rely on civilians to do their job. Big city government takes advantage of the "free" search groups. While the search group higher ups get paid a salary an are classified as a non-profit org.
A bill needs to be introduced to have police do the work. Have trained police officers do the foot searches. The states have the money to do this, but as long as they can get away with not paying anyone to do the dirty work, they will continue to do so.
It's just sad that today we need to have groups like this.
